Driven aircraft to be mass-produced during the Second World War. It represented a brilliant concept for a multi-role combat aircraft in which for the first time all the requirements had already been planned during the design stage. The tandem arrangement of the engines and the well-considered aerodynamics gave it a maximum speed of 763 km/h. The first flight took place on 26th October 1943 in Friedrichshafen, when the Do 335 demonstrated its superior speed combined with very easy handling. The Do 335 was one of the few operational aircraft equipped with an ejector seat - a feature only found in German aircraft. For pilot training a two-seat Do 335 was designed which - with suitably equipment - could also be used as a night fighter. At the end of the war numerous Do 335's in varying conditions of completion were seized by the Allies in Oberpfaffenhofen, only one of which still exists today.
