Breyer - A buckskin is a bay horse with a cream gene that dilutes their hair to a rich caramel color with black or dark brown points. Buckskins can be found in numerous horse breeds and may vary from yellow to dark gold.
Founded in 1971, the International Buckskin Horse Association is the world’s largest registry for horses of this color. "The Buckskin" by Orren Mixer was commissioned in 1996 and unveiled at the 1998 IBHA World Championship Show. The painting depicts a buckskin stallion with nine mares and nine foals, illustrating the various shades of the buckskin, dun, red dun, and grulla horses accepted for IBHA registration. The original painting is currently displayed at the AQHA Heritage Center and Museum in Amarillo, TX.
